It’s a thing. Those high desert hues are definitely a thing. The subdued warmth of the colors that pop up as the sun is rising or setting and reflecting off the desert landscape are in a class all their own.
I was hired to photograph one of the cabins at Terrebonne’s luxurious Brasada Ranch Resort last week and, well, I was worried. They had asked for aerials and twilights, and don’t get me wrong, I love shooting both, but weather-wise, that week in general in Central Oregon hadn’t been the most conducive to hero shot photography – cloudy, rainy, windy does NOT play nice-nice with drones and twilight shoots…
The week before and the week after proved more poopy, so I was prepared for plan B – to at least find a good composition to perform a sky replacement in post, but to my absolute ridiculous delight, for some reason, the photo-Gods were looking down upon me as that particular evening turned out to be PERFECT!
The sky was almost completely clear by the time twilight came, save for some perfect accent strips of clouds painted in the hues of the high desert sand that chose to hang around right above the property.
Happy sky = happy me = happy client!
